23 Things Complete

This is it. I've completed all 23 Things. It's been interesting and I never would have taken a look at Scoop.it or StumbleUpon if not for the program. I'm not a person who finds it necessary to use any of these "tools" in my personal life. I have Facebook and Twitter accounts only because of a PD day training session 4 years ago and I hadn't looked at Twitter since then until it was part of 23 Things. Pinterest is a very cool site but there's so much to look at that time passes very quickly and before you know it hours have gone by. I'll be interested to see how long it takes for a memo to come telling people we're banned from using these sites during working hours. Sheree Fitch recently deleted her Facebook account because it was interfering with her work and her personal relationships. I think she's wise to recognise that and we should all strive to keep things in perspective. Having said that, I'll keep my Facebook and Twitter accounts because its fun to look at what other people are posting from time to time. 23 Things has given me better insight into why and how people become so obsessed with their phones and mobile devices. There's a party going on all the time and if you're not connected you're left out. I've learned that I'm OK with that. I have a great family and friends and a job I enjoy. I'm happy to know that these sites are available to me should I ever feel the need to use them. I'll display my 23Things certificate proudly.

Scoop.it

I just completed Thing 19 and joined Scoop.it. I now have social network accounts and passwords to no end. I shared a Scoop.it story from the Florenceville library to my Twitter account making that tweet #3!!

Apps

This week's exercise assumes that everyone owns a tablet, e-reader or smart phone. Since I don't own any of these devices I read through the steps for this week's exercise and that's it for me.

Watching the Canada Reads Pod Cast

How convenient to be doing Thing 17 just as the Canada Reads debate is on! I'm literally listening as I write this post. For years I've listened to the radio broadcasts but I admit to enjoying the pod cast even more. Seeing the faces of the debaters adds to the experience.

Koko meets Mr. Rogers, her favorite celebrity

I've always admired both Koko and Mr. Rogers so finding them together was a treat. I don't remember this episode of his show from my childhood. I must have missed this one somehow. Copying the video to my Blog was again an exercise in "hit and miss". The video icon indicated in the instruction from 23 Things doesn't exist on the tool bar for my posts. I used the "share" option from the video and was happy to find that it posted straight to my Blog.

Interest in Pinterest

Pinterest is far too interesting! How many hours would it take to cruise through all great stuff people post there? I could spend entire days just looking at recipes. I created two boards in a very short time.... one about recipes and one about books and tea. All my favourite things.

Wordle

Wordle: Stuffies Oh my gosh!! Thanks to Julie, Connie and Patty I've finally managed to copy this Wordle picture to the Blog. It was easy to create the Wordle but I then needed a ton of help to get it into my Blog. This should have been a simple task but it wasn't as straight forward as I anticipated. I now have to print a copy for my daughter since she's the owner of the stuffed creatures mentioned in this exercise. She'll love it!
